Technology salaries & jobs in Australia

Forced digitisation and remote work driven by COVID-19 has fuelled the need to hire more tech talent, for which companies are willing to pay a premium. The Digital Pulse 2022 report found that even amidst the economic fallout of the pandemic, technology salaries in Australia grew by 10.4% between 2019 and 2022. This growth rate significantly outperformed the uptick in salaries for all non-ICT occupations (6.9%) during the same period.

The same report found that technology professionals earn a substantial salary premium of $41,490 per year compared to non-technology professionals, and $11,336 per year on average compared to workers employed in the professional services sector.

Looking forward, as the demand for technology workers continues, the Australian Government plans to rollout several initiatives to encourage the development of digital skills part of its vision to transform Australia into a leading digital economy by 2030.

This will include the Digital Skills Cadetship to support professionals in retraining or returning to the workforce in high-demand areas such as cybersecurity, data analytics and cloud computing.
